Mission & History

Our Mission

Okanogan County Transportation and Nutrition is dedicated to improving the quality of life for seniors, handicapped and general public of Okanogan, Chelan, Douglas and Lincoln Counties and to encourage independent living through nutrition and transportation services.

Our History

OCTN has been providing meals to seniors since 1975 and transportation since 1978.

Senior meals were first provided only in Okanogan County.  In 2005, Chelan and Douglas Counties were added to our service area and in 2008, Lincoln County was added to our service area.  Overall, OCTN provides approximately 87,500 meals to seniors at senior centers throughout our service area and 30,000 meals to homebound seniors.

Transportation began as a service to seniors but has grown to provide transportation services to all segments of our population in Okanogan County.

Our Door-to-Door service provides approximately 34,800 rides per year.

Our intercity service provides approximately 20,000 rides per year.

Funding for our transportation services comes mainly from federal and state competitive grants through Washington State Department of Transportation. The Okanogan County Transit Authority provides additional funding to support Door-to-Door services while the Department of Social & Health Services and Okanogan Behavioral Healthcare support the intercity services. Fares are kept low in order to make our transportation services an affordable transportation option.

Funding for our senior meal programs comes mainly through Aging & Adult Care of Central Washington who distribute funds from The Older Americans Act (federal)  and through the Senior Citizens Service Act (State).  Donations are requested from each senior for the meals at the senior centers and for our home delivered meals.  No one is refused meal service because of their inability to pay.

Donations from the public are needed and encouraged to help provide the match required by our grants. Okanogan County Transportation and Nutrition is a 501c-3 non-profit corporation. These donations are tax deductible. Personal checks, VISA and Mastercard accepted.
